When passion meets competence

With their passion for wine, the 2 friends and business partners of Vinhos Mil Lda have closely studied the reds of Alentejo, Portugal.

Over years they made the decision to produce their own limited Boutique wine. Their vision was to "go a step further" by utilizing the full potential of the rich traditions in this region and to develop a wine by employing rigorous grape selection and enhancing the processes.

A partner was needed to accomplish this vision, and the wine-grower Luis Ribeiro with his ideally situated vineyard proved perfect in this respect. He was able and willing to supply the grape varieties meeting the strictest selection criteria.

The team was completed with Paulo Amaral – renowned for the production of award winning premium wines. Convinced by the potential of the vines, he crafted the best conditions for processing and expansion which ultimately lend the wine its complexity and aromas.

Hand-picked and optimal processed

Alentejo in the south-west is home to the grape. The moderately hilly landscape 20km away from the Atlantic provides the ideal seil conditions for viticulture.

Luis Ribeiro tends the 15 hectares of land with dedication and expertise. He continually monitors the quality of the varieties – Alicante Bouschet, Touriga National, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah – until the grapes are finally hand-picked in the cool morning hours.

Weeks before they are ripe, the grapes are repeatedly inspected by Paulo in order to determine the ideal harvesting time. During this period, the detailed cycle is defined up to the maturing of the wine in oak barrels. Different varieties of French oak are drawn on for the barrels in order to provide the wine with its balanced tannins and characteristically fruity and dark-chocolate aromas.
